Snippets of our country life

A weary and tired looking guy boarding the ferry at Ohato Terminal at Nagasaki city.

After 5 days of extensive travelling and a pulled muscle in one of the leg for Alvin, not to mention an extensive outflow of cash, it was time to head back to Narao once more. After all, that was what i came here for wasn't it, i've got a job waiting for me on the island you know :p

The plan was for me to take as little leave as possible (to save for his next visit in April!)so for the rest of our time on the island together, i went to work in the morning as usual while he stayed home during the day.

While my little countryside home is fully equipped and i have everything i need to make life comfortable and convenient for me, the same cannot be said for him. Besides loads of nature (yes, it's really the sea and plenty of mountains) Narao really has nothing much to offer. Not being able to understand the papers and what's going on on tv much (besides reading the occasional Chinese characters that are flashed across the screen during variety shows)this place is really like a retreat, almost entirely cut-off from the outside world if not for a saving grace that is called the internet!

For the 2 weeks that Alvin was in Narao, we led a simple lifestyle with me going off to work in the morning and the 'house husband' rubbing his eyes and locking the door before going back to sleep for another 3 hours or so. Afternoon was spent studying for an exam that he was scheduled to take shortly after returning back to Singapore so in a way, the timing for this trip was perfect in the sense that there is nothing to do in Narao but to study hard! In the evening, i would leave work on the dot and it was such happy feeling to be able to come home knowing that was someone waiting for you. I made dinner and we would chat over meal about our day and watched the tv together at night and you know what, it felt almost like married life :p Though not exactly the most exciting activities, it was one of the best time of the entire visit. At slow-paced Narao, without the distraction of travelling and moving around, we definitely squabbled much lesser than while we were on the road, listened to and just enjoyed and appreciated each other's company more.

First dinner after arriving on the island,at this little sushi restaurant. After which most of the dinners were hearty homecooked meals prepared by yours truly ;p

Alvin posing with wafu-spaghetti (Jpse-style sauce) and salad; Curry rice, stir-fried vege and stewed pumpkins. I love those pumpkins! Actually, they taste more like sweet potatoes. I never had anything to do with pumpkin back home but i swear the ones you get here are different! Pumpkins had since become a staple in my diet.

Fresh sashimi bought from a nearby fish shop (at a mega discount!), gyozo and grilled saba fillet (from the same store, all these fish at a mere ¥300 can you believe it?!) with chilled beer, what more could we ask for? :)

More dinner shots: white stew served with sweet potato rice and stir-fried potatoes with bacon.

These were taken while we were taking a slow and rather long walk to the largest supermarket near my place. The colors of the evening sky were so beautiful that I couldn't resist stopping to pose for a picture even though the wind was particularly strong that day (note the swaying palm trees in the background).
Such simple activities but yet such immense joy =)
