Mt. Fuji

I surprised myself by how little I know about what is perhaps Japan's most famous 'export', Mt. Fuji. Well not only that but by my relatively inactivity in researching and finding out more about the place as compared to what I had done for all the rest of my trips so far. I guess I am just not too much of a mountain person. Nor can I forsee myself picking up mountain climbing in the near future or at all for the matter. Somehow, I just can't seem to be too interested or in awe of Fuji san for all its glory. In my eyes,it's just but another ordinary mountain, oh well perhaps a more symmetrically cone-shaped mountain than most...

Previous experience to Hakone taught me not to even attempt taking any form of public transport on my own should I ever return for a second time. Most of the buses or trains run every hourly or so and local transport are definitely not your most convenient and best bet either even after reaching the place. The best way to see the beauty of the area is no doubt to rent a car but I have neither the skill nor energy so just for this one time I engaged the fuss free service of a seasoned travel agency and booked all of us a day tour package.

So anyway, as per the wishes of our young visitors for a sight of the famous peak, a day trip to the Mt. Fuji and Hakone area was in order on the second day of the trip.

We were informed that we were in luck that day for it was indeed very fine weather during the whole journey. Along the way even in our coach, we were able to catch glimpses of an almost uncovered view of the mountain. Not too bad at all.

A closer view of the still snow-capped mountain from the 5th station which is the halfway point.

Can you tell from the huddled look in the picture it was quite freezing up there and we could hardly walked straight!

Another rare family picture taken by the tour guide while taking a cable car ride.

Hello there! It seems you had lots of fun at Mt. Fuji! I'm placed at Shinkamigoto as a JET this coming year and tried to find some contact from there. Are you in the same area as well? My base school will be at Uonome Jr. High. If you are, please contact me! I'm dying to get some input from anyone about that island! My email is carloreyes@yahoo.com Thanks and keep up the great blog
